Why Every Company Needs a Certified POSH Trainer

Why Every Company Needs a Certified POSH Trainer

By M David Raj, Corporate Trainer, POSH Compliance Expert, and Founder of M Square Motivation & Corporate Training

Workplace safety is no longer a checkbox exercise. Under the POSH Act 2013, every organization with ten or more employees is legally required to constitute an Internal Committee, conduct regular sensitization training, and file an annual compliance report. Yet many companies still treat this as paperwork rather than culture-building, and that gap is where legal risk, reputational damage, and employee distrust quietly grow.

I'm M David Raj, a Permanent Life Member of the Indian Society for Training & Development (ISTD) and a Certified Trainer under ISTD's Train the Trainer (TTT) program. Over 26 years of corporate leadership at organizations including AirAsia India, Megha Gas, and Trujet, I've seen firsthand how workplace culture either protects a company or exposes it. That experience is exactly why I now focus part of my practice at M Square Motivation & Corporate Training on POSH compliance and training.

What a Certified POSH Trainer Actually Does

A certified POSH trainer does more than read out the law. The role covers three distinct layers of an organization:

Employees need to understand what constitutes harassment, what their rights are, and how to raise a concern without fear of retaliation. This is where general sensitization workshops matter most.

Internal Committee (IC) members need deep legal training, not just awareness. They are the ones conducting inquiries, examining evidence, and issuing findings that can hold up to legal scrutiny. An undertrained IC is often the biggest liability in a company's compliance structure.

Leadership and CXOs need a different kind of briefing entirely: understanding employer liability, how to oversee the IC without interfering in its independence, and how a single mishandled complaint can affect brand reputation for years.

At M Square Motivation, I structure POSH training around these three audiences separately, because a one-size-fits-all session tends to satisfy none of them well.

Why This Requires Real Expertise, Not a Generic HR Session

POSH training sits at an unusual intersection of law, psychology, and facilitation skill. A trainer needs to be comfortable navigating sensitive, sometimes uncomfortable conversations, while staying precise about legal procedure, timelines, and natural justice principles. Get the legal side wrong, and the company is exposed. Get the facilitation side wrong, and employees disengage or become defensive.

This is why I approach POSH training the same way I approach every program at M Square Motivation: no generic slide decks, real case discussions, and training built around how people actually behave in a workplace, not just what the law says on paper.

What This Means for Your Organization

If your last POSH training was a one-time formality, or your Internal Committee has never actually run a mock inquiry, it's worth revisiting before it becomes a real problem. Compliance training done well doesn't just protect you legally, it builds a workplace people trust.

M Square Motivation & Corporate Training offers structured POSH programs for employee sensitization, Internal Committee capacity building, Train-the-Trainer certification, and executive-level briefings, delivered across Hyderabad and Telangana, with online options available nationally.
